Between Viroqua and La Crosse is a tiny little town called Coon Valley. The name has always interested me.
With stray and unwanted animals continuing to be an epidemic across the nation, the Driftless area is not immune. But the Driftless Humane Society works day in day out helping rehome animals that have just as much right to live as humans do.
The Viroqua Chamber of Commerce held its first of four Night Markets for this year in Eckhart Park, that saw city and Driftless Area residents come together last Thursday evening, to eat, drink, browse a variety of unique vendors, and dance.
Sponsored by the Viroqua Chamber of Commerce, the city has incorporated into it a Nationally Accredited Main Street Entity, meaning they have all of the services of a chamber of commerce, but also offers an additional level of services to all members.
This year’s event was held at the Torgerson farm located a short drive outside of downtown Viroqua, Wisconsin. Over 2000 people attended this year’s event that featured kid activities, live music from local artists ‘The Lovelys’, a grilled cheese contest, and tractors on display that were part of the Bill Ripley Jr. Memorial Ride. I would be remiss not to mention the traditional breakfast of eggs, sausage, pancakes, yogurt and of course milk served to guests.
The Episode
A local Wisconsin couple passionate about the Driftless Region gets help from the Raney family, television’s favorite homesteading experts, in Discovery Channel’s HOMESTEAD RESCUE. The season began airing yesterday, and next week a Viroqua, Wisconsin couple Lou Shields and Stacey Roou, will be featured in an episode to air on Wednesday, June 19 at 9pm CST exclusively on Discovery.
